  • Smiths Metal Centres have been trading since 1780, originally making clocks, over time the business developed various new skills and techniques and the business grew quickly to become one of the major clock makers in the country.

When war broke out at the start of the 20th century the demand for clocks declined, however the business had grown to such a level that the business had become a major player in the purchasing of raw materials from across the world.
